Canada Day Celebrations

It's that time of year again - Canada Day! Our forecast is for above 30C so I'm not sure what we'll do but I plan to head to the local park to take in some of the festivities. Tomorrow we're having DH's parents over for a bbq and it's forecast for 33C, yikes! Thank goodness for air conditioning.

I feel like I don't always celebrate Canada Day like I should but every year it's so HOT and I wilt in the heat. I'm hoping to be able to at least take in part of it, there should be some good entertainment and of course fireworks.

Well just a quick post - life has been really busy. DH was on a retreat and just got home today so I've been busy at both work and home. Things should slow down to crawl as we head into July.

Wake Up Call

I have been a 'bad bad' blogger. I don't know what has kept me from blogging or visiting blogs. I guess I got caught up in life. There were a few family issues that had me beyond stressed in the last few weeks and I guess I just have been in a funk.

Yesterday my funk came to a head. I was feeling wacky Wednesday evening. I had what felt like a dizzy, foggy feeling in my head and I couldn't shake it. It was here again yesterday and I was getting concerned so I stopped at the pharmacy to take my blood pressure and it was 141/85, and I had suspected as much - I just felt off! I stopped on the way home to check it again and it was better art 116/75. I really scared myself. I've never had blood pressure problems, but I do need to lose weight and stop eating crap so I think this may be a wake up call.

Instead of spending the evening on the back deck with my tea and knitting I took Oliver and we went for a 50 minute walk, I am glad that I didn't just get depressed and go for the unhealthy foods. Life is going to have to change drastically. I am also extremely worried about my DH as on his mom's side of the family the men have heart attacks in their early 40's and we are both 38.

I'm hoping what happened was a good warning sign to get me and DH to change our ways and get healthy once and for all.

For now we are going to get a lot of outdoor activity, during the summer I am able to ride my bike to work and in the Fall I think we will purchase a Wii and get the fit board and exercise along with it. I don't want to say how much I need to lose, but suffice it to say that it's going to take a good year to accomplish it so I have to stay focused and settle in for changes that will have to last my lifetime.

Knitting and De-Cluttering

We picked up this cute little cupboard up to de-clutter our bedroom. I've had tons of stuff being stored on my dresser top and I've finally had enough of the clutter and I was going to buy a plain old pantry style and DH would have none of that - he said we needed something we'd like so we got this and I'm very happy with it and I got my whole room cleaned up and it's going to stay that way!




My sis had asked for a picture of my night table in the room so here it is, now the paint is a bit brighter than I initially thought, but it still works in the room and it really brightens everything up.















This is the scarf I am working on for my boss's Christmas gift *sigh* I know a lot of people don't want to hear that, but I have to get a head start to get everything accomplished. Anyway the pattern is called Danica and I am using Noro Kureyon and it's great for self striping, the yarn does all the work of colour changes for me, so that is nice.

My Juliet is Finished

Well my second sweater for me is finished - I am very pleased with how this knit up, it was quite easy and quick. I started it on May 5 and I put the finishing touches(buttons etc.) on today.

I have such a hard time finding unique buttons but these ones really suited the colour of the sweater.

Next another KAL with my sister and it's a bit more on the complicated side of things, but it's so beautiful who could resist, just click on this link to see for yourself - it's definitely worth learning a few new things.

I also got the book Fitted Knits from the library and there are some great patterns in there that are also calling to me. So much knitting so little time....:)!

A New Lease on Life Part II

There were some good guesses on the colour of my night tables but no one guessed it right. Here is the finished product. I put the drawers in for the picture but the paint still needs to cure a bit so I'm letting them sit in the garage a bit longer. Over all I am pleased with the results it was a fun job and the tables actually go with my decor...yes my room is green and blue, what a surprise hey! DH picked out the hardware, I had no idea what would look good on it. I think these black knobs suit it just fine. Next will be replacing our lamps as they don't go with this look at all. I'll have to find some nice black wrought iron bedroom lamps.

A new lease on life

Here is a before pic of my night tables. I'm currently giving them a new lease on life. They look completely different. I'll be able to post pictures of the completed project tomorrow or Thursday.

I'm stopping to get some new hardware today to complete the new look.

Painting Tip: If you use TSP to clean the surface with prior to painting, use gloves. My hands feel like sandpaper from not doing so, not fun.

My Quiet Place

My new quiet spot. I have some Noro sitting on the table just itching to become a scarf. Would you believe I am actually making that for a Christmas gift? Yes I plan that far ahead, scary hey!

The lantern is just perfect for the table, we picked it up at Winner's and it suits the table nicely.

I enjoyed some tea and Chapman's frozen yogurt, if you haven't tried it you should. It definitely satisfy's the ice cream craving.
