Wii Time vs Me Time

We recently purchased a Wii. After years of considering it and debating we finally decided it was a good idea. We were visiting at my BIL's house and mentioned that we were thinking about getting a wii but we weren't sure if we'd like it. Before we knew it our 7 yr old nephew was taking us to the rec room to try it out. We fell in love with it. The trouble came in finding one to buy. They were sold out locally at every store. Finally I found one online and snagged it.

So now I have wii time vs me time. This translates to playing wii versus knitting and being a couch potato.

Last night I managed to do both. I love the Wii Sports Resort. I had a blast cycling and my arms are definitely feeling the workout and surprisingly enough the golf is so much fun.

I'm almost done my second Prayer Shawl. This first one was so much fun and so quick, I had it done in just a week. For me that's great considering the demands on my time. Life would be so much more fun if it were filled doing the things you loved to rather than what you needed to do.

I'm in the wrong business

A basic ribbed toque, knit with acrylic yarn. Nothing fancy. So what's the fuss? Well one of our local Hemp stores that has the teens stalking it sells handknit items such as this regular everyday toque. The cost $10. Are they serious? I am totally going to have to make a bunch and see if I can sell a couple. They are definitely easy to do. I can only imagine what they sell for if you actually used Hemp.

Friendship Shawl

A friend and co-worker asked our church knitting group to knit shawls for the senior's that get weekly visits. They will also be given to those struggling with illness or the loss of a loved one. At first the group didn't seem very receptive, however I loved the idea. I dug out some Bernat Satin that I had left over from an earlier UFO and got started on the Friendship Shawl. I'm using 5mm needles instead of 6mm as the yarn is not bulky. The shawl is so quick and easy to do, no hard memorizing so it's a great t.v. watching project. I cast this on this Saturday and it's already 15 inches long, about half way.

Whiffer was kind enough to be a model, of course for him the shawl is a tad big. A great quick knit!

Cake Anyone?

I made 'Red Velvet Cake' for dessert yesterday. This is the first time I've tried this cake. My sister had given me a recipe book with her favorite recipes a few years ago for my birthday. This cake has intrigued me since then. For some reason I thought it would be a difficult cake to make, it wasn't!

The only difference I made was making a stabilized whipped cream icing as I'm not fond of butter cream frosting.
